Scott Gilpin
Scott’s coaching experience spans over thirty years consisting of high school, elite and NJCAA Division I play. During that time, the teams have posted state and national titles. Players have reached conference recognition, Academic All-American status and have been recruited to NCAA and NJCAA division schools. Over the past twenty years Scott have developed and implemented coaching and advanced skills softball camps. He is currently softball techniques coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Softball Ministry and a consultant for the advancement of women’s softball in Central America. Scott is working directly with the National FCA Softball Ministry and has helped to develop coaching clinics and the God and Country games featuring elite fast-
pitch softball players in exhibition against the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team. He has produced a new hitting teaching tool DVD titled,” Better Hitting Through Pitch Identification, SEE-IDENTIFY-SWING” and authored God, Do You Play Softball, a book focusing on some of the questions asked by players and coaches and answered with a Christian coaches perspective and Scripture based responses.
Scott is a United Methodist and has professed his faith since high school. He has been a certified lay speaker, administrative council president and vice president, leader of Methodist men, Sunday school superintendent, Fellowship of Christian Athletes coach, Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Softball Sports Administrative/Advisory member and missionary and leadership board member, but most of all HIS servant and disciple. Scott’s international FCA mission opportunity is working with the Softball Federation of Honduras in hopes through relationships they can advance the game of men’s, women’s, and youth softball. Scott states, “ I try to lead my family, personal and professional life through the direction of scriptures. As a coach I try to lead by example and afford my players an opportunity for faithful growth. While there are many I hold up, two scriptures are a foundation for me, my coaches, team, and players: Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord-you serve the Lord Christ and Matthew 19:26…….with God all things are possible. Also, I follow the thoughts of my mentor Roger Lipe who states, ‘The people of sport embrace the training regimens that their sport requires to fully develop as competitors. A similar embrace of daily reading of devotional thoughts and Bible readings will aid development of the competitor’s heart toward complete devotion to Christ and a whole-hearted life in sport.’ “
